THE SOLEMNITY OF ĐỐNG DỜM
On the third day of the twelfth lunar month, amid a very light drizzle and a chill just enough to make people slow down and reflect, the Đống Dờm Ancient Tomb Management Board solemnly held the ribbon-cutting ceremony to inaugurate the road leading to the tomb of the Ancestral Forefather of the Vũ–Võ lineage of Vietnam. The ceremony took place on the occasion of the 1,172nd death anniversary of Đức Thần Tổ Vũ Hồn—a sacred moment, deeply etched in the consciousness of descendants from near and far.
The newly paved road is broad and smooth, like a silk ribbon connecting the present with its roots. Đống Dờm today is radiant with flowers, warmed by the vivid red of áo dài, and brightened by smiles shared upon returning to the ancestral land. The sacred site feels intimate and familiar, like silent arms embracing those who return.
Following the incense-offering ceremony at Mộ Trạch, the delegation of the Council of the Vũ–Võ Lineage of Vietnam, together with representatives of the lineage from provinces and cities across the country, returned to Đống Dờm to respectfully offer incense and attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony. In that solemn moment, Mr. Vũ Đình Đạm, Head of the Đống Dờm Management Board, movedly shared that the road leading to the sacred site had been completed at a total cost of more than VND 3 billion, made possible through the joint contributions, efforts and support of descendants of the Vũ–Võ lineage from near and far. The road today is not only broad and sturdy, but also shines with affection and gratitude, connecting generations with the sacred roots of their ancestors.
Speaking at the ceremony, Professor and Doctor of Science, People’s Teacher Vũ Minh Giang emphasized with emotion that Đống Dờm is not merely a sacred site of the Vũ–Võ lineage, but also the place from which the spirit of love for learning and encouragement of education originated—a lasting value of the Vietnamese nation. The completion of the road leading to the sacred site today is not only the long-held aspiration of the lineage, but also resonates with the aspiration of the nation to preserve and honor its roots and its tradition of learning. He expressed his sincere appreciation for the pure and enduring dedication of members of the Vũ–Võ lineage who have quietly contributed their efforts to building the site, while also thanking the attention and support of the local authorities and people in helping Đống Dờm become increasingly dignified and worthy of being a sacred place of gratitude and enlightenment.
A large number of descendants of the Vũ–Võ lineage gathered together, standing silently in shared emotion: gratitude to their ancestors, and gratitude to those who had quietly contributed to the site’s construction. From Đống Dờm, the lineage’s source continues to flow with renewed strength and depth, carrying future generations forward on their journey back to the ancestral land.
