Can Tho’s 2026 Military–People’s Tet Marks Its Imprint with Record-Breaking Works Made from Vietnamese Agricultural Seeds
At the beginning of 2026, Major General Vũ Cao Quân made a special mark by successfully establishing four Vietnamese Records and four VietWorld Records through large-scale artworks handcrafted from bean seeds. Not only do these records carry unique creative value, they also convey a profound message of military–people solidarity, honor Vietnamese agricultural products, and have become a prominent highlight of the 20th anniversary of Military–People’s Tet in Can Tho City.
Whenever Tet and spring arrive, officers and soldiers of Military Region 9’s armed forces return to live and work alongside the people, practicing the model of “four together”: eating together, living together, working together, and sharing together through the Military–People’s Tet program. In 2026, Military–People’s Tet marks its 20th year of organization in Can Tho City. Under the theme “Celebrating the Glorious Party, Celebrating the Year of the Horse; Party–People Solidarity, Entering a New Era,” this year’s Military–People’s Tet is being organized by Can Tho City in Hưng Phú Ward, Cái Răng Ward, Trường Long Commune, Phụng Hiệp Commune, Hòa Tú Commune and Vĩnh Hải Commune. Cái Răng Ward is the central location, with activities taking place from January 30 to February 1, 2026.
Within the framework of the program, numerous social welfare, cultural and artistic activities were organized, demonstrating the close bond between the armed forces and the People and helping spread the spirit of military–people solidarity in the days leading up to Tet.
(234).jpg)
Following the merger with Hậu Giang and Sóc Trăng provinces, this is the first year Can Tho City has organized Military–People’s Tet on a large scale across five wards and communes, with numerous practical activities to support local residents.
One of the special highlights of this year’s Military–People’s Tet in Can Tho City is a series of four large-scale artworks: the Flag of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the National Flag, a portrait of President Hồ Chí Minh, and the commemorative symbol marking the 20th anniversary of Military–People’s Tet in Can Tho City. All four were handcrafted from various types of beans. The works were initiated and overseen by Major General Vũ Cao Quân—former Deputy Chief of Staff of Military Region 9, former Commander of the Can Tho City Military Command, and Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Hòa Hảo–Medic Can Tho General Hospital—with the cooperation of Hòa Hảo–Medic Can Tho General Hospital, the Can Tho City Military Command, and Vạn An Phát Co., Ltd.
The four works were the result of more than three months of painstaking collective effort by a team of nearly 50 people, using more than four tons of various types of beans and approximately 500 kilograms of adhesive, with a total implementation cost of more than VND 1.6 billion.

The works were assembled from mung beans, red beans, black beans and soybeans—highly familiar agricultural products. (Photo: Trung Phạm)

The commemorative logo marking 20 years of Military–People’s Tet measures 8.54 m in length and 6.1 m in height, with soybeans used as the background and for the yellow star on the flag; red beans used for the background of the national flag; black beans used for the gun symbol; and mung beans used for the military–people models and the number 20. On the afternoon of January 26, 2025, the works were transported by barge by the Military–People’s Tet Organizing Committee to the Cái Răng Floating Market area in Cái Răng Ward. (Photo: Tâm Bùi)

The four artworks recreating the Party flag, the National Flag, the portrait of President Hồ Chí Minh and the commemorative logo marking 20 years of Military–People’s Tet in Can Tho City are like four spiritual pillars, four “flames” illuminating a single direction: toward the Party, the Fatherland, Uncle Hồ and the bond between the military and the people. (Photo: Tâm Bùi, VietKings)
The four special works were placed on 1-meter-high platforms covered with aluminum composite panels, fitted with supporting frames, decorated with spring flowers, and transported on a 34 m × 9.5 m barge to participate in a waterway parade along the Cần Thơ River, following the route: Vàm Xáng Bridge – Cái Răng Floating Market – Ninh Kiều Wharf – Tây Đô Park, over two days, January 30 and 31, 2026. Beyond creating an impressive visual effect, this activity also demonstrated an innovative approach to spreading political and cultural values, bringing Military–People’s Tet closer to residents living along both banks of the Cần Thơ River—where the rhythm of life, affection and faith move in harmony with the flow of the homeland.
(184).jpg)
Bringing the four works into the waterway parade not only created a unique highlight and expressed the spirit that “the military and the people are as close as fish and water,” but also contributed to honoring agricultural products and the river culture of Southern Vietnam within the spring festival setting. (Photo: Trung Phạm, Đồng Đó Đây)
Not only innovative in form, the works and activities also maintained continuity in their ideals and consistency in their political message, enabling Major General and Record Holder Vũ Cao Quân to successfully establish four Vietnamese Records and four VietWorld Records in the following categories:
· The model of the Flag of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the National Flag, handcrafted from bean seeds, achieving the largest size in Vietnam (to celebrate the successful 14th National Congress of the Party and the 96th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of Vietnam, February 3, 1930 – February 3, 2026);
· A portrait of President Hồ Chí Minh, handcrafted from bean seeds, achieving the largest size in Vietnam;
· A model commemorating the 20th anniversary of Military–People’s Tet in Can Tho City, handcrafted from bean seeds, achieving the largest size in Vietnam;
· A barge parade featuring works handcrafted from agricultural seeds, organized for the first time in Vietnam, in celebration of Can Tho City’s 2026 Military–People’s Tet.
The Records were presented to Major General Vũ Cao Quân during the closing ceremony of Military–People’s Tet 2026, held on the evening of February 1, 2026, at Cái Răng Floating Market (Cái Răng Ward, Can Tho City).
